Cost of freight | Cost of moving grain and screenings to and from cleaning facility. |
Cost of handling and storage | Cost of manpower and equipment for handling of grain, seed and screenings plus added cost of seed storage/segregation and blending of screenings if applicable. |
Cost of money and product quality risk | Carrying cost to hold over product along with ongoing risk of quality retention. |
Hassle factor to clean seed | Attribute a cost for all your time and management to manage a farm saved seed lot. Take into account opportunity cost for time in this area verses other important activities or even holidays. |
Added yield from improved seed quality (disease free, no preharvest, top germination & vigor) | Calculate additional yield value for quality improvements of certified seed verses value of farm saved seed.
