Taking on the role of Western Product Specialist at FP Genetics has been an exhilarating journey thus far.

By Everett Boots – Western Product Specialist

As someone passionate about agriculture since childhood, I’m excited to be part of an industry that combines science, relationships, and practical problem-solving. My primary focus will be to understand the connections between farmers, retailers, and the crops we nurture together.

In my early days here, I dove into the fascinating world of epigenetics to uncover the secrets of how genetic traits impact plant performance. Each seed carries a narrative shaped by environmental factors and stress, and I’m dedicated to helping farmers understand their choices and the potential they hold.

Working closely with Colin and Colette, my Saskatchewan and Alberta territory managers, has been both educational and transformative. We collaborate to first understand and then bridge the gap between our products and the retailers we support. Each retailer presents unique challenges and opportunities, and I’ve found that engaging in open, honest conversations turns these interactions into collaborative efforts aimed at supporting farmers directly.

While agriculture can sometimes be misunderstood by some, the variety in my job is what makes it exciting. Some days I’m mapping locations, while others find me in the field, connecting with farmers, sharing laughs, and hearing their stories. My goal is to foster trust, to form a reliable partnership with farmers, so they know they have a player on their team who has their best interests and successes in mind.

Building trust takes time, but it’s essential for creating lasting partnerships, and I aim to be the go-to resource producers and retailers think of for crop questions, laying the groundwork for solid relationships one conversation at a time.

A significant highlight of my role so far, was connecting with a farmer at a trade show who was, understandably, frustrated by disappointing crop yields. Instead of launching into immediate seed discussions, I listened to their concerns. After gaining a better understanding, I visited their farm to see their situation firsthand and discuss tailored solutions. This experience reinforced that my role is about more than our product offerings; it’s about offering the support that will build relationships and lead to shared success.

Looking ahead, I believe we’re on the cusp of something exciting at FP Genetics. It’s time to redefine how we form these relationships in agriculture. I envision a network where agronomists, retailers, and farmers come together as a close-knit community focused on mutual success. Every day offers new opportunities for us to connect and support one another.

Gathering feedback after harvest, learning from experiences, and driving innovation are crucial priorities. By being responsive and adaptable, we can remain relevant in a constantly changing landscape. Our goal is clear: we aim to be more than a seed supplier; we want to be a vital support system for those who depend on us, paving the way for fruitful collaborations.

Everyone at FP Genetics, genuinely cares. Each team member shares a passion for not just the science but the real-world impacts on our farmers. I’m proud to belong to a company where that dedication is evident in all we do. Agriculture isn’t just about what we grow; it’s about the communities we help thrive.

Collaboration is key to our success. When we work together with retailers and farmers, we can develop innovative solutions that address their unique challenges. I’m excited about the potential for transformative partnerships that allow us to address issues as they arise.

As I continue this journey, my commitment to farmers remains steadfast. I want to be the person they can trust for guidance, someone who invests in their success as much as they do. It’s this dedication that drives me to strive for excellence in my role.

Let’s look forward to growth, relationships, and a commitment to excellence in everything we do. With us you’ll gain that genetic advantage. We’re not just planting seeds; we’re creating lasting legacies.
