CDC Westgate is a high forage yielding oat, 6% greater than CDC Haymaker that incorporates the low lignin trait which results in higher NDFD30, along with lower ADF and NDF than CDC Haymaker. It also shows significant improvement in grain yield, 14% greater than CDC Haymaker, higher test weight, similar kernel weight and lower plumps than CDC Haymaker. The hull color of CDC Westgate is tan and has the same large leaf, large plant appearance as CDC Haymaker, but is taller and shows better lodging resistance than CDC Haymaker. CDC Westgate has a slightly improved disease package compared to CDC Haymaker.

Marion Westgate

Marion Westgate

Marion served with the Royal Canadian Air Force (Sic Itur Ad Astra) attached to No. 15 Elementary Flying Training School as a Flying Officer (Nursing Sister) during the Second World War. On October 27, 1943, Flying Officer Marion Westgate died following the crash of a Cornell aircraft near Regina due to heavy fog.
