Barry John Whitehead born in Hackney, London, England 20 Nov. 1946.  Father joined the RCAF as a firefighter in 1954 and we immigrated to Canada Sept. 1955 stationed at CFB Winnipeg.  In 1965. I followed in my father’s footsteps.  Boot camp was at St. Jean, Quebec and three months of firefighter training, CFB Camp Borden, Ont. My firefighting career started with 7 years at CFB Comox, BC.  While there, I became a fire inspector and fire prevention officer with on-the-job training.  From there, it was off to CFB Downsview, Toronto.  Here, I took junior leaders course, arson investigation level 1 and was promoted to M/Cpl and then Sgt.  In 1977, kept heading east and was Station Fire Chief at CFAD Renous and CFS St. Margaret’s in New Brunswick.  I was also asked to fill in at CFB Chatham as a Platoon Chief.  In 1980, it was off to CFB Edmonton were I was a Deputy Platoon Chief.  It was a short stint here and was asked to go to CFS Masset, Queen Charlotte Island, BC.  In 1982, was Station  Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chief for the town of Masset.  In 1985, I returned to CFB Comox where I was promoted to Warrant Officer and became a Platoon Chief.  Took the opportunity in 1988 to head to CFB Lahr, West Germany.  Worked as a Platoon Chief and as a member of our NATO forces.  Closed CFB Lahr in 1994 and headed back to Canada stationed at CFB Cold Lake. Alberta.  Retired in 1995 on the 11th November.  Finished my firefighter career with a one-year contract at the international airport in Hamilton, Bermuda.  Decided to retire to the Okanagan in Naramata and Summerland.  Was an Ordinary member of the Summerland Royal Canadian Legion were I supported the bar and sang Karaoke.  With aging in-laws in Kamsack, we decided to get closer by moving to Lethbridge, AB. in 2006.  Transferred to their Legion and assisted with functions and ceremonies.  Moved to Yorkton in 2008.  Spent 5 years as an Executive member with the Yorkton Legion serving in the positions of Poppy Chair, 1st Vice President and then finally Branch President for a period of 3 years.
